Now that we have our new lockers installed at 2 locations in the town we are able to make our booking process much more flexible. Previously ebike hires were in 7 day blocks only. However, we are now able to offer hires from as little as 2 days.
Existing customers who have previously hired from us will now be able to pick up and return their bike from a locker and won’t need a handover from the team.
New customers will still need to have a short face to face induction before riding their ebike away. Hires will be charged at £5 per day and there’s a 2 day minimum just to make sure that the bikes can be returned clean and fully charged ready for the next customer.
We have good availability for the weekend and through next week so why not give your lungs a rest and hire one (or two) of our fantastic ebikes.

Ebike availability remains reasonable at the moment but its picking up.

We’re really excited to be taking the next steps with our Community Ebike Hire project.
We have been successful in attracting support from the council to further improve our storage, bike parking and maintenance facilities in the town. This will include the installation of 4 bike lockers and a maintenance station in the council car park on Commercial Road, Oldmeldrum. We will also install a further 2 lockers alongside our main storage facility on Colpy Way. These new lockers will greatly improve the flexibility of our Community Hire Scheme by making short term hires possible. Currently we hire bikes in 7 day blocks due to the need for volunteers to be present at each rental and return. The lockers will enable us to offer much more flexible terms to repeat customers and should greatly improve our utilisation while not creating a significant extra burden for our volunteers.
We will also be providing hoops to secure bikes in the town square making it more likely that cyclists will be prepared to park their bikes when visiting local shops and cafes. This should encourage folk to use their bike more when visiting the town centre and will be great for cyclists using local cafes. Finally, the existing, underused storage shelter in the Baker Street car park may be removed and more parking spaces will become available there.
There is good Ebike availability for the period beginning Friday 19th May

Cycle Aberdeenshire will be hosting a number of Cycle Ride Leader courses in partnership with Cycling Scotland between January and March 2023. Depending on the levels of interest, they would be keen to make these courses or spaces available for community groups from the Aberdeenshire area, to enhance what they already provide to their local community.
Access to these courses is free and at this stage they are simply looking for notes of interests, before moving to allocating dates/venues in early 2023. If your organisation would like to be considered for places on these courses, which are for a maximum of 8 people per course, or if you have any questions, please email Malcom Grant at malcolm.grant@aberdeenshire.gov.uk
We were really pleased to take delivery of our new storage container last week. Here’s a photo of the handover with Gary and Richard from Oldmeldrum Community Ebikes and Mark Stephen from local company James Fisher Decommissioning, who very kindly donated, refurbished and installed the container. We are extremely grateful for Jame Fischer Decommissioning’s fantastic support for our project. This donation will enable us to move forward with other aspects of the project plan and our aim to get more people out cycling in the local area.
Our new storage container gets delivered to site tomorrow (Wed 12th October) at the Elevator Car Park on Colpy Way.
Pop along at 4.15 if you’d like to be part of the handover photo.
